Peeling Paint In This Auchenflower Property Was Evidence Of A Wet Mess

Once water is allowed to get into the walls of your home, you're going to be faced with a litany of symptoms until the problem is resolved. There is a silver lining to this chaos, though, as the sheer weight of problems caused by moisture pouring through the walls of your home becomes much easier for our team to notice, as was the case when we performed this Auchenflower building inspection.

Once we walked into the home, we immediately noticed the peeling paint on the wall adjacent to the bathroom. Peeling paint can be a sign of many issues, including termites, but this close to a bathroom, it was far more likely to be a symptom of water damage. Sure enough, once we deployed the moisture meter, we were quickly able to detect a large amount of moisture in the wall cavity.

Upon inspecting the bathroom, we were able to quickly piece together what had happened. There was a vent in the wall next to the shower, and inside of the wall cavity, tell-tale signs of moisture damage. Around the top of the shower, the membrane that is typically supposed to stop water from exiting the bathroom had failed, and the water was able to pass through that space into the wall cavity.

As a result, both the wall frame and the gyprock walls had been extensively damaged. Fortunately, when we presented our findings to our client, they were able to negotiate an offer that accounted for the cost of repairs in the sale price, leaving both parties satisfied in the final transaction.
